To commemorate the recent 8th anniversary of the Çafleurebon website, Editor-In-Chief Michelyn Camen and British perfumer Sarah McCartney of 4160Tuesdays decided to collaborate on a perfume that not only included an amalgam of some of their favorite notes, but was representative of strength and fortitude, all done with the idea of tapping into the wealth of material from Lewis Carrol’s “Alice Through The Looking Glass”. Thus the new perfume they named “4160Tuesdays X ÇaFleureBon White Queen came to fruition.

An eighth anniversary for any online magazine is quite a milestone. Eight is an auspicious number; the numerical 8 turned on its side gives you the symbol of infinity and the eighth card of the Tarot is the Major Arcana card of Judgement often represented by a woman in white (our higher selves) taming a lion (our base and earthier instincts) and thereby acting as the conduit between the two representing total control of earthly situations. In numerology the key element of number eight is power and strength. The power of eight is critical as it is not the power that comes with anger and aggression; it is the power that comes with patience and energy that gives you strength to accomplish your goals.

4160Tuesdays White Queen X ÇaFleureBon is an unusual and beguiling scent, and quite a departure from the 4160Tuesdays canon which often presents fragrances with a wink and a smile, a certain cheekiness if you will. White Queen is a grown-up perfume for men and women who have left childhood trappings behind. Opening with wisps of incense and citrus, 4160Tuesdays White Queen X ÇaFleureBon tumbles head first into the proverbial rabbit-hole of perfumery, and onion-like reveals it in wondrous layers. The further you delve into this perfume, the more interesting and addictive it becomes.

This is a fragrance that entices with promises waiting to be discovered and mined if you will just give yourself over to it. The White Queen as written in “Alice Through The Looking Glass” is a complex character and full of contradictions. She lives her life backwards so as to always know what will happen “the week after next”. Like the beloved character, White Queen the fragrance constantly surprises with its twists and turns; just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, it veers off into another direction that is both unexpected, and surprising. At its heart White Queen X ÇaFleureBon is a neo-gourmand, but void of all the candy floss sweetness that seem so prevalent these days.

It is the softest white duvet that comforts and coddles sans the cloyingness. The hazelnut and raspberry add a woody/fruity nuttiness that eschews the typical jam or jelly feeling for something non-sweet and deeply satisfying. The touch of jasmine gives it a floriental feeling; rich and luscious without being unctuous. I would swear to a touch of orris in the mix, but White Queen does not offer up her secrets easily. The lactonic velvety cream note smooths and adds unity, and of course Sarah McCartneys’ signature patchouli is present as well, but dialed back allowing the milky florals to shine. 4160Tuesdays White Queen X CaFleureBon is a fragrance that you will absolutely want in your collection; and this is coming from a fragrance connoisseur who owns as many 4160sTuesdays as Guerlain and Chanel. Unequivocally, it is one of Sarah’s best.

Notes: incense, hazelnut, citrus fruits, raspberry, jasmine (the Queen of Flowers), cream, opoponax, vetiver, patchouli, musk.

Note: 4160Tuesdays White Queen X ÇaFleureBon is a limited edition and available $110 for 50ml and $180/100 ml exclusively at Perfumology  (there is a small quantity of samples if you contact Nir Guy).
